Kitty Hawk, NC the actual site of the Wright brothers' first successful flight (12 whole seconds) on December 17, 1903. The first anyone flew in a motorized airplane. To commemorate North Carolina's license plate says, "First in Flight." Now, that makes sense. The fight took place in North Carolina, now what doesn't make sense is this, the license plate "competition" between North Carolina and Ohio. Ohio's license motto is, "Birthplace of Aviation." It is true that the Wright brothers were from Dayton, Ohio, and that is where they owned their bicycle shop, but is Ohio really the birthplace of Aviation? I feel that they are stretching the truth a bit, as aviation wasn't developed in Ohio, as Wilbur and Orville were already reading books about the principles of aviation before their first flight, and a German man had already built a gilder which carried him to his death in about 1895. So, is Ohio the birthplace of aviation? I think not. What they could claim is the birthplace of the Wright brothers, because that is true.
