Breakfast at the Diner

We have a tradition in our family- breakfast at a diner with Oma and Opa. Every year before we head home Oma and Opa take the family out for breakfast. All the children were a bit slow in getting ready for the day, so it was at least 10:00 am before we left the house. That left us with a few options for breakfast... we needed somewhere they serve breakfast all day. Two choices emerged, either Friendly's or the Sussex Queen Diner. The diner emerged supreme because you can only eat at the Sussex Queen in Sussex, NJ, but you can eat at Friendly's anywhere.
The diner seems to be a  concept lost in time in
most states, but for some reason or other the idea is still going strong in NJ. When we mentioned to the waitress that we almost went to Friendly's, she was quick to say that certainly the breakfast at Friendly's wasn't very good, except their home fries. She admitted that Friendly's has better home fries.
One of the things I love about diners, is that they have huge menus. One peril of the huge menu, is that sometimes what you want might not be an every day favorite, which means that the cook might dig it out from the deep freezer. But with breakfast it's safe, you know they made those pancakes fresh right after you ordered them. Here's Kristen posing with her new scarf; she ordered french toast.
At the diner there is always another feature which only the diner has... the advertising place mat. A lawyer or a new cell phone are just a call away. Sadly yesterday at the diner there weren't any hilarious advertisements. They were all rather common place and tame. Although we have seen some funny ones in the past.

Yum... the food arrived after only a few minutes of us waiting, which was especially good because Katelyn had already started to complain about how hungry she was.
