Mishap

Today, I locked my keys in the trunk of the car. The front of the car was open though. I spent the next 15 minutes panicking, calling my dad, and beginning to dial AAA. I punched in the second to last digit of the AAA phone number, and it hit me. I can access my trunk through the back seat... duh! Some evening, all that panic for nothing.

A History Teacher's Dream... Roanoke Island

Driving on Roanoke Island you feel as though you are back in the real south, no more beach houses, no more Wings stores selling “all you need to reach the beach”; instead we found quaint cottages set between the trees and history galore. Yesterday Uncle Mike and I decided that we needed to do something outside of the house, as it had been a few days since we had seen any sights. I suggested that we take a trip down to Roanoke Island; since I knew that as a history teacher there must be something I could learn by visiting the site of the first British settlement in the so-called “New World.” Uncle Mike agreed and we made the hour drive down to Manteo. Our first goal was to visit the national park at the end of the island. We drive in. Usually at national parks there is a nice welcome center to greet you. The Sunrise Saga

This week one of my goals was to get up early enough to watch the sunrise. On Wednesday I woke up at about 6:30 am, and when in my half awakened state I looked through the cracks in the window shade my still asleep brain decided that the sky was too light and that the sun must have already risen. I went back to sleep. On Thursday I was just lazy, and didn’t feel like setting my alarm clock, so I slept through the sunrise again. So, on Friday I was determined. At exactly 6:29 am I woke up (one minute before the alarm, much to my pleasure, as I hate the sound of alarms) and… it was pouring! The weather forecast all week had been calling for rain on Friday morning, so I wasn’t surprised. In the back of my mind I knew that because of the rain the clouds would be too thick and my dreams of seeing the sun peak above the sea where going to be foiled, but the stubborn part of me made me get up anyway and go out onto the porch into the rain. ...
