I meant to put these pictures on here a few weeks ago, but I think I need to feel motivated to update the blog, and I am always so busy worrying about school that Sunday afternoon really seems to be the only time I have to work on this project. And truthfully I hardly ever do much that is noteworthy.A few weeks ago my church had its annual yard sale. I have grown up helping with yard sales, and I had a some old clothes that I never wear anymore, so I told Myra, the lady who
was organizing it, that I would help. Well in Sunday the week before it happened Katie was looking through the bulletin and saw my name as being second in charge of the yard sale. Well it was a good thing that Katie had seen it because at the end of church during the announcements the Pastor had me stand up so people would know who i was. If Katie hadn't been looking through the bulletin I would have been caught completely off guard. Myra told me that nobody else had volunteered and that she had meant to warn me ahead of time, but it didn't matter. The only thing I really had to do was be at church at 5:30 the day of to help set up.

The only thing I really had to do was be at church at 5:30 the day of to help set up. I am so glad that I said I would help. I think I only sold five dollars worth of clothes (I priced things at one dollar or two dollars and many of the people from the community thought it was too expensive!), but it gave me a chance to meet more people from church and pratice some Spanish. Myra's son Aaron tried to help me, but even he got frustrated with my lack of accent. It is super hard to conduct a sale when the person buying and person selling speak different languages. It was also just really nice to be outdoors all morning (although it got really hot), and it gave me an excuse not to go to school early in the morning.

And then yesterday I went to the beach. Really, living in Miami I should go to the beach more often, but the last time I went to the beach was in October. My friend Rachel from college is on Spring Break from law school, and it worked out that she could stay near Miami Beach. So yesterday I braved the Miami highway system and drove to Surfside, Florida which is north of Miami Beach. And my car even made the whole way there (I just had to get the full pump replaced, and I am still worried that it might stall out on me any minute), but car troubles aside I made
it and was able to spend a relaxing afternoon on the beach. As many of you know I am not the biggest beach person, but I do enjoy it every now and then. It had been "cold" the past couple days, and I was worried that I would freeze on the beach, but yesterday warmed up nicely. It was just the right temperature to sit out in the sun. Imagine the sun lightly beating down on you and a breeze in the air. It was windy, but not windy enough for parasurfing (I just invented that term because I do not know what the name for the sport actually is)
, or so the guy doing the parasurfing told us. (ps. if anyone really knows what this is called feel free to correct me, I just really don't feel like figuring it out : ) We all had a lot of fun people watching (some people need to be a little bit more careful about what they are wearing!) But it takes all kinds right, and yesterday at the beach there certainly where all kinds, from tan leathery
people to old women in bikinis. So the sun was nice, and the people were hilarious, but the water was freezing! Rachel and I put our feet in the water and quickly ran out of it a few seconds after we had touched it. I guess I didn't expect it to be that cold, because normally up north when it's warm enough to sit on the beach, it's warm enough to go in the water.
